"And a Happy New Year!"

We've had a lovely Christmas holiday so far, and still have a few days left before normalcy hits (always hoping for a new and improved "normalcy").  SO MUCH FUN just hanging out with family.  We were able to Skype with both of our missing kids on Christmas day -- Lindy was on while we and they opened gifts, and we had a chuckle that her husband got her a Gollum doll.  With Paul's notebook computer we played "Pass Lindy" so she could see what each person here was opening.

Then in the afternoon we got TWO blessed hours with our favorite Quinny.  He's so cute and doing so well.  We asked him what are the hardest and the best things on the mission, and he gave the answers that I knew he would (because I lived them myself): finding is hard, but teaching is awesome.  He says he's met a lot of weird people, like at the door they knocked on that had stickers on it of dogs in ballet tutus, and a guy came out with horrid dreadlocks (I guess that's redundant) and long nasty fingernails, and he was all like, dude i luv to hear about god and i think that's great wut yer doin' an stuff and my name is Kevin.  So they got a return appointment with Kevin, but when they went back, the person who answered the door didn't know any Kevin, certainly not somebody who lived there.  So, yes, Virginia, there still are real authentic hippies.

But he's also met amazing people too, like the 70-something year-old woman who left Germany during WWII -- the Gestapo broke her nose -- and has known of the Mormons for quite some time, in fact a few family members have joined the church.  She had been receiving the missionary lessons for some time, but had never attended church.  So during Quinn's first few days in Oregon they visited her, and she was hesitant about going, but Elder Georgia said, "Please come to church on Sunday, because I don't know anybody there, and it would be nice to see a familiar face" (LOL) and she CAME.  And now she has a baptismal date for early January.
